Have you ever heard of something called a “self-fulfilling prophecy?” I first heard it when I was in high school. My art teacher was a crass man, but he trusted that his students could produce incredible work if they believed they could – no matter what level of “talent” they possessed.
He would walk around and hear students getting frustrated, saying, “I just can’t do it!” In response, he would essentially say, “You keep telling yourself that, and you’re never going to,” and then stroll away with his hands clasped behind his back.
It was frustrating. Seriously – our teacher wanted us to think we could suddenly be able to accomplish something if we just told ourselves we could? Complete artsy-fartsy nonsense to a bunch of insecure teenagers!
Now that I’m a wee bit older and, thankfully, wiser, I realize what he was trying to say. Our mindsets control us. Or they set us free. It depends on how you choose to embrace this idea!
Set Yourself Up For Success with Your Mindset
The very thing that makes us unique as human beings is our ability to form mindsets. Here’s why - we share 98.8% of our DNA with primates. However, they have vastly different prefrontal cortices from human beings.
The prefrontal cortex allows us to think, reason, analyze, and create in ways primates will never be able to. If you learn how to tap into the possibilities that exist within your brain, you’ll see you can do just about anything you want.
With a bit of mindset coaching, you can tap into your prefrontal cortex’s limitless abilities and start living your best life – in every aspect! Yup, all of us can do this!
Here are 3 Simple Steps to Developing a Limitless Mindset
Step 1) Give yourself a mindset-reset. Try to clear your head of any preconceived notions that you have about yourself and your goals. Stay present and believe anything is possible.
Commit to a goal and know you’re going to reach it, come hell or high water!
Step 2) Action: Create an action plan to achieve your goal. You want a road map so you can tangibly see what needs to happen to get you to where you want to go. Your plan of action is crucial. I take a substantial amount of time to develop this with my clients. You should too.
Here’s why – Your map will create more clarity and the belief that your goal is within reach. Your brain needs to believe you can accomplish the plan, or else it will pull the b.s. card. When your brain is saying bullsh*t, it stops the manifestation of results.
Step 3) Vision: Now that you have a clear map, and you know your goal is within reach, picture what your life looks like once you reach your objective. Get as detailed as possible. What are the sites, smells, sounds, and feelings you’re experiencing?
Here’s the deal, scientific studies show a strong correlation between visualization and transformation. Suppose you want to live in a beachfront home or scale your business start seeing it in your mind. The more you practice mental imagery, the more your brain will help make it a reality.
Stay doggedly committed to your road map and practice step #3 every day.
Don’t worry about those days when you get knocked down a peg (or two or three) – they will happen. But as long as your mindset is in it to attain that coveted success, you’re going to be able to push yourself to keep on trying, keep getting up when you fall, and keep being better every single day.
